The Story of Garywood
Garywood's inception began in the summer of 1947. there was an evangelist by the name of dorine justice from longview, tx who was holding a tent crusade in the garywood community.
following the crusade there were a number of BELIEVERS in the area who felt the strong need for a pentacostal church in their neighborhood. so the people united together and with donations of money, MATERIALS and labor they built a small church called "el bethel". there were originally 14 members of the church.
Later the church would become known as Garywood. evangelist dorine justice devoted a full year to pastoring the people of garywood and getting the church moving before handing it off to her PREDECESSOR, e. b. carter. there were a number of other pastors to follow during the next 3 decades.
in FEBRUARY of 1979 john and sharon loper accepted god's call upon their lives to become the pastors of garywood. it was in the years to follow that god moved in the most amazing ways through their leadership and the people of the church. the church expanded spiritually in their pursut of god, physically; growing to 1500 in attendance, and GEOGRAPHICALLY; as they purchased much need land for a new building and property in MCalla.
in FEBRUARY of 2013 jeff and stacey leatherman accepted the POSITION as lead pastors at garywood and continue to write the amazing story of garywood.
